AVALANCHE SAFETY COURSES
We take your avalanche safety education seriously! Skiers, snowboarders, snowshoers and climbers welcome. Our Avalanche Safety Education program offers a variety of courses for all levels- backcountry novice to experienced tourer, ski patrollers, Search-and-Rescue, Armed Forces and mountain guides. Accredited by the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE www.avtraining.org), all our avalanche courses are a mix of classroom and field work utilizing up-to-date course materials and effective teaching methods at a convenient location. We take pride in delivering a state-of-the-art, informative, hands-on avalanche course with your safety in mind.
We are a premiere source for avalanche education in the United States: As ski/mountain guides and avalanche instructors, we have spent decades in the backcountry building up the extensive knowledge and experience that is necessary to provide cutting edge avalanche courses. Alpine World Ascents exclusively employs AIARE instructors who are amongst the best in the field of avalanche education, serve as backcountry observers/forecasters for Avalanche Information Centers, are Ski Patrollers, Search-and-Rescue members and work as AMGA/IFMGA certified Ski and Mountain Guides. For us, avalanche education is not just a way to keep busy in the winter; it's a cornerstone of our philosophy to promote safe mountain travel.
AWA is operating under special use permits by USFS, RMNP and in conjunction with Peter Krainz at Rocky Mtn Guides and others.
For the current Winter season, we are only offering privately scheduled avalanche courses, AIARE format or custom designed. Please contact us to discuss your avalanche safety needs.
!!! We are fully booked for the Winter 2015/16 !!!
We no longer are able to provide our avalanche safety program at Berthoud Pass. Please read on below...
For more than 10 years, Alpine World Ascents has provided continuous backcountry and avalanche observations to the CAIC as well as a wide array of avalanche safety education to the public, school groups, Ski Patrol, Search & Rescue and Military Special Forces at Berthoud Pass. We are proud to know that we have become the most respected resource of avalanche safety education in the broader Front Range.
As of Nov 28 2013, the USFS no longer allows us to provide avalanche safety courses at Berthoud Pass! As a direct consequence of the USFS not issuing a commercial use permit to operate at Berthoud Pass, we therefore can no longer offer our avalanche safety program! There are currently no public avalanche safety courses at Berthoud Pass (despite the area being one of the top 3 most avalanche prone sites in the State of CO). We are maintaining our application to operate at Berthoud Pass on file with the USFS and will re-start our avalanche safety program should we be able to obtain the necessary permit. If you like to make your discontent about this situation heard, please email the USFS at the Clear Creek office in Idaho Springs, CO (Penny Wu email@example.com, cc us at firstname.lastname@example.org - please be polite and consider the following points: Berthoud Pass as a very popular place for winter backcountry travel / Importance of and demand for quality avalanche safety education at Berthoud Pass / Your personal twist on backcountry and avalanches at Berthoud Pass and beyond). Your support on our behalf is greatly appreciated. If you are looking to take a quality avalanche course in Colorado with a reputable outfit, we recommend Silverton Avalanche School. In the meantime, our staff continues to live busy lives working elsewhere locally and around the world as ski & mountain guides, avalanche safety instructors, avalanche forecasters and safety directors, ski patrollers, search & rescue members.
